MLS 360: Week 13

Seattle Sounders remain top of the Supporters’ Shield standings after Chad Barrett’s dramatic late goal secured a 2-1 win against New York Red Bulls.

Lloyd Sam put the visitors ahead after Bradley Wright-Phillips’ scuffed free-kick deflected to him, before Marco Pappa’s jinking run yielded the equaliser.

In a repeat of last season’s MLS Cup Final, New England Revolution and LA Galaxy played out a 2-2 draw with Teal Bunbury opening the scoring for the hosts.

LA’s Ignacio Maganto struck an equaliser and Jose Villarreal’s backheel allowed Gyasi Zardes to give Galaxy the lead, before Diego Fagundez bent in Revolution’s second.

Chicago Fire secured their first win in four with a 3-0 demolition of Montreal Impact, thanks largely to Harry Shipp who netted the first.

Jeff Larentowicz’s penalty doubled Fire’s lead before Kennedy Igboananike struck to secure the points.

Sporting Kansas City coach Peter Vermes earned his 100th win in all competitions with a comfortable 4-0 win against 10-man FC Dallas.

Krisztian Németh scored before Zach Loyd was sent-off and goals from Benny Feilhaber, Kevin Ellis and Graham Zusi completed the rout.

Pedro Ribeiro made a goalscoring return for Orlando City in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Columbus Crew after MLS top scorer Kei Kamara thought he had won it.

Tony Tchani opened the scoring for the visitors, before Orlando’s Kaka scored a penalty after his shot had been handled by Michael Parkhurst.

Goals from Justin Morrow, Warren Creavalle and Luke Moore gave Toronto FC a 3-1 win against San Jose Earthquakes despite Chris Wondolowski scoring his 101st MLS goal.

Villa earned NYC a point

Cristian Techera’s first MLS goal condemned Real Salt Lake to a 2-1 defeat against Vancouver Whitecaps with Gershon Koffie’s effort cancelling out Javier Morales’ goal.

Chris Rolfe’s late penalty completed a 2-1 turnaround for D.C. United after Chris Pontius had levelled against Philadelphia Union who led through Sebastien Le Toux.

Jack Jewsbury struck in stoppage time to add to Gaston Fernandez’s goal and give Portland Timber’s a 2-1 win against Colorado Rapids despite Sam Cronin’s effort. 

Will Bruin and David Villa traded first-half goals as New York City FC and Houston Dynamo played out a 1-1 draw at the Yankee Stadium.
