We’re down to MLS’ last unbeaten record, there was the customary
late drama and red cards but more bizarrely there was also a major weather delay.
Here are our winners and losers in the latest round of
fixtures.

1) Super subs save
the day
New England Revolution had Teal Bunbury to thank for their turnaround,
while LA Galaxy’s saviour was USMNT international Omar Gonzalez.
Bunbury turned the game on its head when he was introduced
in the 61st minute, setting up Charlie Davies three minutes later
before grabbing the winner in the 76th.
Gonzalez’s contribution was no as all encompassing but it
was certainly as important, the defender came on with 12 minutes to play and
netted the winner in stoppage time.
2) Red Bulls in a
league of their own
New York Red Bulls are now top of the Eastern Conference and
MLS’ only unbeaten team after Real Salt Lake suffered defeat against Vancouver
Whitecaps.
The 2013 Supporters’ Shield winners have made an impressive
start to life without the creative talent of Thierry Henry and it is their
midfield that sets them apart.
Dax McCarty and Felipe provided the perfect foil for Sacha Kljestan
to help link up play with Red Bulls’ attacking talent, a combination few others
will be able to match.
3) Rapid start to
slow ending for Dallas
It took FC Dallas a franchise record of just 29 seconds to
open the scoring this weekend – but they had to wait nearly five-and-a-half
hours for the win.
Fabian Castillo scored the first in the 3-2 win over Toronto
FC, latching onto Moises Hernandez delicately weighted pass to give the home
side the perfect start.
But a lightning strike just before half time led to a 206 minute delay, with the game resuming at 23:42 local time – everyone was in for quite the shock!

Suffering defeat to current Supporters’ Shield leaders
Vancouver Whitecaps is nothing to be ashamed about, but losing two players to
red cards is.
In a feisty encounter Real lost substitute Sebastian Saucedo
in the 76th minute, the rookie put in a clumsy challenge on Caps replacement
Mauro Rosales.
Before Jamison Olave, named as one of our best MLS signings,
then received his second bookable offence in the 89th minute to
round off a miserable day for Salt Lake.
2) D.C. United taste

But the four-time Supporters’ Shield champions have now
thrown the way a lead in their last two games and have fallen from top spot in
the Eastern Conference.
After New York Red Bulls fought from two goals down last
weekend, it was Owen Coyle’s Houston
Dynamo that battled back for a point at the RFK Stadium this time around.

3) NYCFC can’t buy a
win
They may be able to attract World Cup winners like David
Villa and have Premier League legends like Frank Lampard on the way but New
York City can’t buy a win at the moment.
Despite investing millions and being backed by one of the
richest club’s in world football the new franchise extended their winless run
to five games against Portland Timbers.
The result came on
the back of Thursday’s draw with Philadelphia Union where Jason Kries’ side
lost the lead and now sit outside the play-off spots.
